IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education)
Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year old students. The IGCSE programme is taught at Cambridge School of Constanta across two years and provides Year 10 and Year 11 students with a broad and balanced curriculum, offering a range of subjects tailored to meet the unique interests and aspirations of our students.
Students at CSC undertake IGCSE exams in a range of subjects, achieving the Cambridge International Certificate in Education (ICE), a respected endorsement of a well-rounded academic foundation, by the end of Year 11. This ICE certificate is awarded when students obtain at least seven IGCSE credits, chosen from five key groups: Languages, Humanities, Sciences, Mathematics, and Creative/Professional subjects.
To earn the ICE certificate, students must select:
- Two subjects from the Languages group,
- One subject from each of the other groups, with an additional subject from any group to meet the set requirements.
The IGCSE exams evaluate students through various methods, including written exams, oral assessments, and coursework, allowing them to demonstrate knowledge in diverse ways. Exams are conducted in June each acdemic year and grading follows an international standard (A* to G).
ICE Certification Tiers:
- Distinction: Grade A or above in five subjects and Grade C or above in two subjects,
- Merit: Grade C or above in five subjects, with a minimum Grade F in two others,
- Pass: Grade G or above in all seven subjects.
This level of learning provides a solid academic foundation while fostering skills in problem-solving, analysis, and independent thinking, equipping students for the AS and A Level courses.
IGCSE qualifications are widely recognised by universities and employers worldwide, equipping students with a strong academic base for further study.
