Secondary School
Assessments
At Cambridge School of Constanta, student evaluation is an integral part of the learning process. Measuring a student’s progress provides vital information regarding their academic and personal performance in the classroom, so as to monitor their development academically, socially and behaviourally. By forming a comprehensive understanding of the performance of each student, teachers are able to create learning plans which meet the specific needs of every student on a personal level, thus ensuring that each child develops successfully.
Besides regular internal assessments, students also participate in national assessments and Cambridge Primary Checkpoint exams to gauge their knowledge against international benchmarks.
National assessments take place annually, usually towards the end of the school year, according to a timetable set by the MEC:
NE 6. | The assessment of basic competences at the end of Grade 6, consists of 2 tests lasting 60 minutes each, focusing on Language and Communication and Mathematics and Natural Sciences. No marks are awarded for these tests, instead, evaluators use codes for correction and then create a report listing the relevant achievements and partial achievements, requiring remedial measures, for each test and each student. |
NE 8. | The national assessment for Grade 8 graduates is a summative external assessment of the skills acquired during lower secondary education. The examinations last 120 minutes each and test skills and knowledge relating to Romanian Language and Literature and Mathematics. Grades are awarded for these assessments and, when calculated as an arithmetic mean, represent the score for the National Assessment. Grade 8 graduates from Cambridge School of Constanta who remain within the school for their high school studies, do not participate in the computerised admission process. |
Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Exams | Are written by Grade 6 students, during the Cambridge October examination series. The assessments are organised exclusively by Cambridge accredited schools, as the examinations are designed and checked by Cambridge Assessment International Education. Each student receives a set of documents containing an analytical report of their performance and the results obtained for each subject assessed (English, mathematics and science). |
Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint Exams | Are written by Grade 8 students during the May Cambridge examination series. These tests are checked by Cambridge Assessment International Education and provide schools with an international benchmark against which a student’s knowledge can be tested. It is an accurate way to measure a student’s level of ability, to recognise both the strengths and weaknesses of a student in each subject area assessed (English, mathematics and science). Each student receives a set of documents containing an analytical report of their performance and the results obtained for each subject assessed. |
